Redhaven Peach
Pollination & Compatibility Guide
Redhaven peach is self-fertile with viable pollen. Review its Group 3 bloom, provisional chill estimate and orchard management.
Redhaven is Self-Fertile (Sets Fruit Alone)

Flowering Period & Overlap Window
Peaches and nectarines are the same species and can share pollen when bloom overlaps. Most cultivars set fruit with their own pollen, so a partner is not normally required. Pollen-sterile exceptions such as J.H. Hale and Indian Free need a fertile peach or nectarine flowering at the same time.
Redhaven flowers within the peach Group 2–4 overlap window. Only pollen-sterile cultivars require a separate fertile peach or nectarine donor.

Incompatible Varieties & Exclusions (4)
These cultivars cannot serve as pollinizers for Redhaven because their pollen is sterile, flowering does not overlap, or a documented close relationship excludes the pairing.
A direct parent (Redhaven × Diz) — roughly half the pollen is non-functional, so it is not a reliable partner.
A sport of the same cultivar — genetically identical, so it carries the same incompatibility alleles and cannot pollinate it.
Indian Free produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
J.H. Hale produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Grower Commentary: Redhaven as a Reference Peach
Redhaven is a self-fertile diploid peach with viable pollen. Its Group 3 flowers can set fruit without a companion, and the same bloom makes it a useful donor for a nearby pollen-sterile cultivar such as J.H. Hale when actual flowering overlaps. Regional harvest dates are often described relative to Redhaven, but that harvest reference does not determine whether two cultivars bloom together.
Our record lists a provisional chill estimate near 875 hours below 7.2°C. Check the estimate against winters measured with the same model; insufficient chill can spread bloom and impair fruit set even on a self-fertile tree. Redhaven's fresh and canning outlets reward a planned picking sequence. After natural drop, thin the crop for marketable size and keep enough one-year shoots for the following season.
A peach block should be ordered on a compatible stock selected for soil drainage, nematode pressure and tree size. Lovell or an appropriate Controller stock may suit different systems, but Myrobalan, Marianna, St Julien and Wavit are plum stocks incompatible with peach. An open-centre tree leaves room for annual renewal pruning and fruit access. The donor role does not remove Redhaven's own need for frost-aware siting.
Key Orchard Considerations for Redhaven
Group 3 Redhaven sets alone and can supply J.H. Hale or another sterile peach where blossom overlaps.
Roughly 875 hours below 7.2°C is provisional; compare local winter records using the same model.
Choose peach-compatible roots for the site; do not transfer Myrobalan or St Julien from a plum block.
