Flowering Period & Overlap Window
Peaches and nectarines are the same species and can share pollen when bloom overlaps. Most cultivars set fruit with their own pollen, so a partner is not normally required. Pollen-sterile exceptions such as J.H. Hale and Indian Free need a fertile peach or nectarine flowering at the same time.
Frost flowers within the peach Group 2–4 overlap window. Only pollen-sterile cultivars require a separate fertile peach or nectarine donor.

Incompatible Varieties & Exclusions (2)
These cultivars cannot serve as pollinizers for Frost because their pollen is sterile, flowering does not overlap, or a documented close relationship excludes the pairing.
Indian Free produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
J.H. Hale produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Grower Commentary: Frost's Leaf-Curl Advantage
Frost is a self-fertile peach with viable pollen and Group 3 bloom. The source notes strong resistance to peach leaf curl, which can be useful in wet spring districts. That disease trait is separate from pollination: Frost needs no partner for its own set but can supply a pollen-sterile neighbour only when open flowers overlap. A disease-resistant name does not imply that blossom avoids frost injury.
No cultivar-specific chill number is stored in our current record, so compare local trial experience rather than assigning a generic peach figure. Rain during early growth still warrants canopy inspection even where leaf curl pressure is lower. After fruitlets form, thin a crowded crop and maintain renewal shoots for next year's bearing wood. Leaf-curl resistance cannot compensate for poor light, excessive load or a cold-air trap at bloom.
Frost can be trained as an accessible open-centre tree with regular removal of shaded older wood. Select a peach-compatible rootstock for the site's drainage and replant history; do not transfer Myrobalan, Marianna, St Julien or Torinel from an adjacent plum block. A stock that tolerates a heavier soil may be worth more than a smaller tree on a poorly matched root system. Confirm the graft and disease programme with the nursery and local adviser.
Key Orchard Considerations for Frost
Group 3 Frost sets alone and may pollinate a sterile peach where the flowering window overlaps.
Leaf-curl resistance is documented; no cultivar-specific chill figure is stored, so use local winter evidence.
Match drainage and replant pressure, avoiding incompatible Myrobalan and St Julien stocks.
