Indian Free Peach
Pollination & Compatibility Guide
Indian Free peach pollen sterility, Group 3 donor choice, provisional chill estimate and red-fleshed fruit management.
Indian Free Needs a Fertile Peach or Nectarine Partner

Flowering Period & Overlap Window
Peaches and nectarines are the same species and can share pollen when bloom overlaps. Most cultivars set fruit with their own pollen, so a partner is not normally required. Pollen-sterile exceptions such as J.H. Hale and Indian Free need a fertile peach or nectarine flowering at the same time.
Indian Free flowers within the peach Group 2–4 overlap window. Only pollen-sterile cultivars require a separate fertile peach or nectarine donor.

Incompatible Varieties & Exclusions (1)
These cultivars cannot serve as pollinizers for Indian Free because their pollen is sterile, flowering does not overlap, or a documented close relationship excludes the pairing.
J.H. Hale produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Grower Commentary: Indian Free and Donor Placement
Indian Free is a red-fleshed peach whose pollen is sterile even though its flowers can receive compatible pollen. The corrected pomology record requires one self-fertile peach or nectarine donor overlapping its Group 3 bloom. Do not rely on J.H. Hale: it is pollen-sterile too. Redhaven or another fertile cultivar may serve if both have open blossom on the same days; the checker evaluates the available catalog partners.
Its provisional chill estimate is about 750 hours below 7.2°C, using the hours-below-threshold model. A grower should compare that estimate with local observations, because insufficient chill can scatter flowering and weaken the planned overlap. The fruit's distinctive red flesh may suit a specialist outlet, but pollinizer rows still need to be arranged for blossom movement rather than for fruit colour or harvest timing alone.
Peach bears on one-year shoots, so retain enough new wood during annual pruning and avoid letting a strong crop suppress renewal. Thin crowded fruit after set for useful size and to reduce limb strain. Order Indian Free on a peach-compatible rootstock suited to the site's soil and disease pressure. Do not carry Myrobalan, Marianna, St Julien or Wavit over from a plum block; those stocks are incompatible with peach scions.
Key Orchard Considerations for Indian Free
Indian Free needs a fertile Group 3 peach or nectarine donor and cannot pollinate a neighbouring sterile cultivar.
About 750 hours below 7.2°C is an estimate; verify winter chill and compact bloom locally.
Use peach-compatible roots and retain one-year shoots; plum-family stocks such as St Julien and Wavit are unsuitable.
