Flowering Period & Overlap Window
Peaches and nectarines are the same species and can share pollen when bloom overlaps. Most cultivars set fruit with their own pollen, so a partner is not normally required. Pollen-sterile exceptions such as J.H. Hale and Indian Free need a fertile peach or nectarine flowering at the same time.
Donut (Saturn) flowers within the peach Group 2–4 overlap window. Only pollen-sterile cultivars require a separate fertile peach or nectarine donor.

Incompatible Varieties & Exclusions (2)
These cultivars cannot serve as pollinizers for Donut (Saturn) because their pollen is sterile, flowering does not overlap, or a documented close relationship excludes the pairing.
Indian Free produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
J.H. Hale produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Grower Commentary: Saturn's Flat-Fruit Crop
Donut, sold as Saturn, is a self-fertile flat peach with viable pollen and Group 3 bloom. A second cultivar is not required for its own fruit set. It can be a donor for a pollen-sterile peach or nectarine only when their flowers overlap in the actual block. Flat shape is a fruit trait, not a separate pollination pool or a reason to apply Japanese plum compatibility rules.
The cultivar's white flesh, low-acid flavour and saucer shape distinguish the harvested fruit, but they also call for a considered picking and packing method. Check fruitlets after natural drop and thin dense clusters for usable size and access. The current structured pomology entry does not provide a cultivar-specific chill requirement, so compare site winters with regional Saturn experience rather than inventing a value from another flat peach.
Peach bears on one-year wood; renew shoots annually and avoid a shaded interior that makes a small, delicate crop harder to pick. Choose a peach-compatible rootstock suited to drainage and irrigation, with nursery confirmation of the graft. Myrobalan, Marianna, St Julien and Wavit are incompatible plum stocks. Where spring frost is common, plant above cold-air traps before expecting self-fertility to secure a crop.
Key Orchard Considerations for Donut (Saturn)
Self-fertile Group 3 Saturn can donate to a sterile peach if their flowering dates match.
Thin for size and plan gentle picking; the engine stores no cultivar-specific chill figure.
Use a peach rootstock matched to drainage, not Myrobalan, Marianna or St Julien.
