Flowering Period & Overlap Window
Peaches and nectarines are the same species and can share pollen when bloom overlaps. Most cultivars set fruit with their own pollen, so a partner is not normally required. Pollen-sterile exceptions such as J.H. Hale and Indian Free need a fertile peach or nectarine flowering at the same time.
O'Henry flowers within the peach Group 3–5 overlap window. Only pollen-sterile cultivars require a separate fertile peach or nectarine donor.

Incompatible Varieties & Exclusions (2)
These cultivars cannot serve as pollinizers for O'Henry because their pollen is sterile, flowering does not overlap, or a documented close relationship excludes the pairing.
Indian Free produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
J.H. Hale produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Grower Commentary: O'Henry for a Fresh-Market Block
O'Henry is a self-fertile peach used in fresh-market production, with viable pollen and Group 4 bloom in the catalog. It does not need a second peach to set fruit, though it can serve a sterile cultivar if their flowers truly overlap. A later Group 4 donor should not be specified solely from a group number for a Group 3 recipient; local bloom dates and bee activity are the deciding checks.
Our record holds a provisional chill estimate of about 750 hours below 7.2°C. A warm winter that fails to meet the requirement can produce prolonged, uneven bloom and complicate thinning and spray timing even though O'Henry is self-fertile. Compare the estimate with local winter measurements, then plan harvest labour and fruit handling for the intended fresh outlet. Thin a strong crop early enough to retain useful fruit size.
Keep new fruiting shoots throughout the canopy during annual pruning; peach does not crop indefinitely on old spur wood. Choose a peach-compatible rootstock after checking drainage, lime and nematode pressure. Nemaguard can suit some well-drained sites but is poor on wet or calcareous ground; Myrobalan, Marianna, St Julien and Wavit are incompatible with peach. An open-centre tree should leave light and picking access through the late harvest.
Key Orchard Considerations for O'Henry
Self-fertile O'Henry can donate to a sterile peach only where bloom dates overlap.
The provisional 750-hour figure needs local comparison; thin and pick for the intended fresh-market grade.
Use a peach-compatible stock; Nemaguard needs suitable drainage, while plum stocks are incompatible.
