Enterprise Apple
Pollination & Compatibility Guide
Enterprise apple pollination guide: diploid, late bloom group 4, scab-resistant long keeper. Compatible partners, mildew notes and storage timing.
Enterprise is Self-Sterile (Needs 1 Partner)
Enterprise needs at least one compatible pollinizer from bloom group 3–5 to set a reliable crop.
- Chromosome Ploidy
- self sterile
- Required Companions
- 1 Diploid Partner
- Bloom Group
- Group 4 (Late-Spring)
- Harvest Timing
- Late (+10d from Golden Delicious)
Flowering Period & Overlap Window
Apple flowering periods are classified into numbered bloom groups (1 through 6). A variety reliably cross-pollinates with cultivars in its own group or adjacent groups (±1 group).
Any compatible diploid apple flowering within Group 3 to 5 provides matching blossom overlap.

Incompatible Varieties & Exclusions (15)
These varieties overlap in flowering time with Enterprise but cannot fertilise it due to sterile pollen (triploids) or shared genetic incompatibility alleles.
Arkansas Black produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Ashmead's Kernel produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Baldwin produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Belle de Boskoop produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Blenheim Orange produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Bramley's Seedling produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
A direct parent (Enterprise × Honeycrisp) — roughly half the pollen is non-functional, so it is not a reliable partner.
Fall Pippin produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Jonagold produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Karmijn de Sonnaville produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Mutsu (Crispin) produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Orleans Reinette produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Spigold produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Stayman Winesap produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Zabergau Reinette produces no viable pollen, so it cannot serve as a pollinizer.
Grower Commentary: Enterprise Late Flowering, Storage and Mildew
Enterprise (Co-op 30) is a diploid, self-sterile apple from the Purdue, Rutgers and Illinois cooperative programme, released in the early 1990s from a sib mating of two unreleased selections. It flowers late, in bloom group 4, and produces viable pollen. Choose partners that overlap with late bloom; an early group 2 variety will often finish before Enterprise opens.
Enterprise is itself a parent of Cosmic Crisp, a useful fact if you grow both in one block. Fruit ripens about ten days after Golden Delicious in maritime north-west European conditions, so it needs a long season. The record lists dessert, culinary and keeper uses, and it earns the keeper tag: flavour improves in cold storage.
Scab resistance suits low-spray plantings, but the record flags powdery mildew susceptibility, so prune out infected shoot tips in spring and keep the canopy open. Do not assume field resistance to fire blight; scout and cut out strikes early.
Key Orchard Considerations for Enterprise
Pair with a semi-dwarfing rootstock and open the canopy to cut mildew pressure and improve fruit colour.
Scab resistance does not cover mildew; remove infected terminals in spring and inspect new growth regularly.
Pick late and store cold; flavour mellows over several weeks, so plan farm gate or wholesale sales after harvest.
