Originating in Techlovice, Czech Republic, Kordia produces exceptionally large, heart-shaped, glossy black-red fruit with long, elegant green stems, remarkably firm crisp flesh, high natural sugar levels, and extraordinary cold storage longevity.
Genetically classified in Incompatibility Group VI with the S3S6 genotype, Kordia is gametophytically self-incompatible. It cannot set fruit with its own pollen and requires a cross-compatible companion tree. It is fully compatible with Regina (S1S3), Schmidt (S2S4), and universal self-fertile donors like Skeena (S1S4′), Sweetheart (S3S4′), and Lapins (S1S4′).
Kordia blooms in mid-to-late spring (Bloom Group 4). Because of its late flowering habit, it effectively escapes early spring frost events that threaten earlier-blooming cherries.
