President European Plum
Pollination & Compatibility Guide
President plum pollination guide: Group 4 Pool A partner requirement, viable pollen and late dessert or culinary cropping.
President Needs a Compatible Pool A Partner
Named as Coe's Golden Drop's partner despite itself requiring a partner. Own partners: Victoria, Marjorie's Seedling, Stanley. President (European) needs at least one compatible pollinizer from bloom group 3–5 to set a reliable crop.

Flowering Period & Overlap Window
Plum bloom groups run from 1 to 5. A useful partner flowers in the same or adjacent group and belongs to the same pollination pool. European plums, gages and damsons are Pool A; Japanese plums and prairie hybrids are Pool B. A tree from one pool cannot pollinate the other.
For President, select a compatible plum in the same pollination pool flowering from Group 3 to 5; bloom overlap alone does not bridge Pool A and Pool B.

Incompatible Varieties & Exclusions (4)
These cultivars cannot serve as pollinizers for President because of a different plum pollination pool, a documented incompatibility or another exclusion in the source data.
plum incompatibility groups are only partly mapped, so only cultivars documented as reliable donors are offered. Green Gage (Reine Claude) is not one of them — that is a gap in the data, not evidence it is incompatible.

Grower Commentary: President as Crop and Donor
President is a Group 4 European plum in Pool A and needs a compatible partner for its own crop. It produces viable pollen and is named as a donor for another cultivar in the source material, so needing a partner does not make it pollen-sterile. Victoria or Stanley offers a practical same-pool starting point when bloom overlaps. Japanese plums belong to Pool B and cannot supply the missing pollen.
President's later blossom can help extend pollen coverage in a mixed European block, but a late label does not guarantee simultaneous flowers on every site. Check the actual open-bloom days against its companion, particularly where a warm spring compresses flowering. If set is uneven, first distinguish frost damage and poor bee flight from incompatibility; another row of the wrong pool will not solve either issue.
Fruit can serve dessert and culinary outlets, so plan harvest labour around grade and use rather than stripping every tree together. Assess crop load after natural drop, thinning branches that would bend or break under full fruit weight. A bush on St Julien A or Torinel keeps picking reachable; a larger Myrobalan frame needs more row width and a different harvest plan. Keep the tree open to light late in the season.
Key Orchard Considerations for President
President donates viable Pool A pollen but still needs its own compatible donor, such as Victoria or Stanley.
Check local flowering dates rather than assuming a late label overlaps every neighbouring cultivar.
Thin overloaded branches and preserve access for selective dessert or culinary picking.
