Flowering Period & Overlap Window
Peaches and nectarines are the same species and can share pollen when bloom overlaps. Most cultivars set fruit with their own pollen, so a partner is not normally required. Pollen-sterile exceptions such as J.H. Hale and Indian Free need a fertile peach or nectarine flowering at the same time.
FloridaPrince flowers within the peach Group 1–2 overlap window. Only pollen-sterile cultivars require a separate fertile peach or nectarine donor.

Grower Commentary: FloridaPrince's Low-Chill Tradeoff
FloridaPrince is a self-fertile low-chill peach with viable pollen. The catalog places its blossom in Group 1, so it can set fruit without a donor but is not a routine partner for a much later-flowering sterile peach. Its breeding use in warm-winter districts reflects the low chill need. A second peach row only helps pollination when its flowers are open at the same time.
Our provisional estimate is about 175 hours below 7.2°C, within the source's approximate 150–200-hour range. Compare that hours-below-threshold figure with local winters and regional trial results. In a cold-winter district the requirement may be met early, allowing a warm spell to advance bloom into later frost. Low chill expands possible winter climates; it does not make the opened flowers frost-proof.
Early fruit calls for prompt picking and a canopy that lets crews reach the crop. Thin strong set after natural drop and preserve one-year shoots for next season's fruit. Choose a peach-compatible stock suited to warm-site soil biology and drainage; Nemaguard may suit some well-drained nematode sites but fails on wet or calcareous ground. Myrobalan, St Julien and Wavit plum stocks are incompatible with this peach.
Key Orchard Considerations for FloridaPrince
Self-fertile FloridaPrince blooms very early; do not count it as a donor for a later sterile peach without overlap.
About 175 hours below 7.2°C is provisional; early chill fulfilment can advance blossom into frost.
Match peach roots to drainage and nematodes; Nemaguard and incompatible plum stocks have different site limits.
