North Star Dwarf Sour Cherry: Hardiness & Self-Fertility
North Star is a celebrated naturally dwarfing sour cherry bred at the University of Minnesota (English Morello × Serbian Pie Cherry, introduced 1950). Reaching a mature height of only 8 to 10 feet on standard rootstocks, North Star produces heavy annual crops of dark mahogany fruit with rich red juice and full Morello-type tart flavour.
North Star is fully self-fertile and sets heavy, dependable crops as a standalone tree with zero cross-pollinators required. It is also an effective pollen donor for other sour cherry cultivars flowering during its bloom window, providing excellent pollination support across the fruit planting.
Flowering late in Bloom Group 4, North Star escapes late spring frosts.
