Perfection Apricot
Pollination & Compatibility Guide
Perfection apricot pollination guide: partner-required Group 3 cultivar, Goldbeck synonym, named partners and chill estimate. Partners and bloom overlap.
Perfection Needs a Compatible Apricot Partner
Also known as Goldbeck (absolute sport/synonym per peaches-apricots.md). Partners: Tilton, Blenheim, Goldrich, Harcot. Perfection needs at least one compatible pollinizer from bloom group 2–4 to set a reliable crop.

Flowering Period & Overlap Window
Apricots flower before peach, plum and cherry, so bloom overlap and spring frost decide most outcomes. Self-fertility varies by origin: many Mediterranean-type cultivars set alone, while several North American releases need a compatible partner flowering at the same time.
Perfection flowers within the apricot Group 2–4 window. Partner-dependent cultivars need a compatible apricot whose flowers overlap in the same days.

Incompatible Varieties & Exclusions (7)
These cultivars cannot serve as pollinizers for Perfection because their flowering does not overlap, their pollen is unsuitable, or they share the same incompatibility group.
apricot incompatibility groups are only partly mapped, so only cultivars documented as reliable donors are offered. Goldbar is not one of them — that is a gap in the data, not evidence it is incompatible.

A direct parent (Perfection open-pollinated seedling) — roughly half the pollen is non-functional, so it is not a reliable partner.

Grower Commentary: Perfection Needs a Partner
Perfection is a diploid apricot that needs one compatible partner in the pomology record. It flowers in Group 3 and has viable pollen, so it can pollinate its partner in return. The source guidance also lists Goldbeck as a synonym or sport. Tilton, Blenheim, Goldrich and Harcot are named partners; Blenheim opens earlier, so check the actual overlap.
Our record holds about 750 hours below 7.2°C as a provisional estimate. Compare it with local winter chill rather than treating it as a fixed threshold. Apricot flowers are highly exposed to spring frost, and a partner-dependent tree loses more if cold weather removes either side's blossoms, so site drainage matters even more here.
Perfection ripens mid-season. Thin fruit, keep the canopy open and check rootstock and drainage details with the nursery. Skaha is a Perfection seedling that is self-fertile, so do not carry Perfection's partner requirement over to its offspring. Check every nursery label for the exact cultivar name.
Key Orchard Considerations for Perfection
One overlapping Group 3 apricot, such as Tilton or Harcot.
Goldbeck is listed as a synonym or sport; verify nursery labels.
Two-tree dependence raises the cost of a frosted year.
